The History of ICNC
The Infection Control Nurses of Connecticut (ICNC) was established in 1984 by the Infection Control Nurses of New Haven County and the Infection Control Nurses of Fairfield County.
The Organization was formed to assemble and unify all practicing infection preventionists in all health care setting and to improve the infection control throughout the State of Connecticut.
The objectives were:
~ To establish, promote, and maintain high standards of infection control in accordance with Federal and State regulations
~ Provide on-going education via seminars, lectures, workshops, and open fora in the field of microbiology, epidemiology, surveillance, and/or identified areas which will increase the expertise of the Infection Preventionist
~ Provide a peer group which encourages communication among its members regarding observation, identification, recommendations and resolution of infection control matters
~ Assist in the development of essential management skills required to fulfill the role of the Infection Preventionist
~ Provide a network of consultants which will act as an on-going resource to the Infection Preventionist
~ Develop guidelines for standardization of infection control practices
~ Assist in development of regional chapters thoughout the State
